Zachary Barker, CEcD, MS, brings a unique combination of entrepreneurial experience, economic development leadership, and higher education instruction to every program he teaches.
As the founder of Startup Support Center, Zach has spent years helping entrepreneurs launch, grow, and scale successful businesses through practical, action-oriented training focused on business growth, sales development, strategic planning, and entrepreneurial mindset development. His experience as a business owner spans more than two decades, having founded and led multiple ventures across industries including marketing, professional services, events, and entrepreneurship support.
Recognized nationally for his expertise in entrepreneurship-led economic development, Zach currently serves as Director of Entrepreneurship for the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), where he leads initiatives that strengthen entrepreneurial ecosystems and help communities create pathways for inclusive economic growth. Throughout his career, he has worked with entrepreneurs, economic development organizations, universities, accelerators, and community leaders to build thriving small business ecosystems in communities across the country.
As an educator, Zach combines academic rigor with firsthand entrepreneurial experience. His teaching philosophy emphasizes practical application, giving participants tools, frameworks, and strategies they can immediately implement in their own businesses.
Zach holds a Master of Science in Economic Development, a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing and the prestigious Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation. He is widely respected as a trainer, speaker, ecosystem builder, and entrepreneur advocate who has dedicated his career to helping business owners turn ideas into sustainable, growth-oriented enterprises.
